Description

This visualization shows energy jobs in the Northwest by subsector, according to 2023 data from the U.S. Energy & Employment Report (USEER).

Top employing energy subsectors include Motor Vehicles (companies that manufacture, ship, and design new vehicles and parts and/or repair motor vehicles) and Traditional Transmission, Distribution, and Storage (TDS). Of the top 10 employing subsectors across the Northwest, five fall into the Energy Efficiency sector, shown in yellow.

Filtering by sector can illuminate key similarities and differences between states. For example, Solar was the highest or second highest employing Electric Power Generation subsector for all four states, and Petroleum was the top employing Fuels subsector in Montana and Washington, while Woody Biomass was the top one in Idaho and Oregon.

See definitions of each energy technology subsector in Appendix K (pg. 57) of the USEER Appendices.
