This visualization shows energy jobs in the Northwest from 2016 through 2023, according to the U.S. Energy & Employment Report (USEER).
All four Northwest states experienced increased energy employment from 2017-2019, followed by a decline in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Across the region, the Energy Efficiency sector experienced the greatest percentage decline in 2020 (-12%). As of 2023, total energy employment in Oregon and Washington was still below pre-pandemic levels, while in Idaho and Montana energy employment had surpassed pre-pandemic levels.
